  Mœrs Festival
Sponde di Passione (Whitsun)
Mœrs (Deutschland)  ·  23. Mai 2010

Under the title "Sponde di Passione" (shores of passion), the Sardinian guitarist Paolo Angeli, who is known above all for his spectacular solo performances, has dreamt up a multi-genre work of art comprising photography, circus and music which is to be shown in Mœrs for the first time. Our festival tent, which was designed to be a big top, will finally be used for the purpose for which it was built! The Italian artist Elena Zanzu is to perform a trapeze act in the roof of the tent, while Paolo Angeli and his musicians influence proceedings from the stage.

Project O : The Moon & the Castle
Luxembourg  ·  17-22 avril 2010

‘Project O’ is a 40 minutes choreographic performance for children conceived and designed by VEDANZA Artists International, co-produced by TRAFFO and TROIS C-L. It aims to provide a unique ground for a sensorial experience from seeing, hearing and feeling; a delightful contemporary dance performance made of games and surprises. The performance is based on a modern fairy tale – The Moon and the Castle:

the Moon disappeared for months; nowhere to be seen.
even in the silent ocean, tides were not seen or heard,
ships wandered their ways not finding the shore.
dogs and wolfs went restless, whining days and nights.
where did the Moon go? did someone snatch the moon?

  Incubus-Succubus
World premiere at the PPA Festival
Wroclaw, Poland, March 21, 2009
Theatre Dichotomia & Special Guests

According to medieval European legend, a succubus is a demon who takes the form of a beautiful woman to seduce men in dreams to have sexual intercourse with them - Their male counterpart is the incubus. The medieval pre-occupation with sin sought to account for such guilt-producing behavior by providing such supernatural explanations.

Three musicians from different musical backgrounds –South Indian percussion, contemporary music and jazz– form this unique trio. Ganesh, Malcolm and Rainer share a musical culture and aesthetic that is based on a love of the raw material of music: sound.

They share a culture that respects traditions but acknowledges that each artist has a responsibility to create music that reflects the present –the here and now. It is a culture that respects disciplined practice so that they can follow music to areas of exuberant excess if that’s where it leads them. It is a culture that insists they speak with their own voice –the sum total of what they’ve lived, loved and heard. A culture that insists on ego serving music and not vice versa.

GaPa is a duo comprised of musicians Ganesh Anandan and Patrick Graham. Based in Montréal, Ganesh Anandan and Patrick Graham have been working closely together for the past 5 years, exploring new techniques and compositional structures for percussion with a special emphasis on fingerdrumming styles.

Featuring compositions by both artists, and employing an extensive array of instruments, such as the bodhran, kanjera, riqq, taiko and tar, GaPa draws inspiration from styles and traditions as varied as Irish, Arabic, and Japanese music. In particular, the complex South-Indian, or karnatak rhythmic system permeates the duo's sound. Add a modern sensibility, a sense of humour, invented instruments, as well as vocals and melodic elements to round out this unique musical fusion, and the result is an organic, cross-cultural mélange that defies classification.

GaPa often collaborates with guest artists, including recent concert appearances with noted percussionists Glen Velez, USA, (1999), Ramesh Shotham, India, (2001) and Carlo Rizzo, Italy (2001).

GaPa CD, imaginaria, released in September, 2003

PASIC 2002

Ganesh Anandan was invited to PASIC 2002 where he presented a clinic called FingerWorks. His transpositions of South Indian karnatak drumming techniques for frame drums was the focus. After several years of research and development he has transposed the karnatak two handed drumming technics for alternative surfaces such as the bodhran. Ganesh has also created "a frame drum kit" for one player, an innovative singular approach to playing multiple tuned frame drums.
